You can allocate new telephone numbers for a customer at any time after their VoIP server has been provisioned.
You can allocate numbers with any UK geographic area code regardless of where the customer is located. You can also allocate non-geographic numbers with 03 prefix or with 0845 prefix.
We can also provide UK Freephone (0800) numbers and numbers for other countries - but you cannot currently allocate these via the portal. You must request such a number by email to our support team at support@vipvoip.co.uk
Click on the Numbers tab on the portal main menu then click the Allocate Numbers button.
Click NO to the question “is this a ported number?”
Enter how many numbers are to be allocated. Usually it will be just 1. You can specify up to 50 with the same area code. This feature would allow you produce a list of candidate numbers for a customer to choose from before you allocate one.
Choose the area code or city name or prefix from one of the radio button selections, enter your search criteria then click the Search button.
You should be presented with a list of one or more numbers (as in the example below) depending on how many numbers you specified in the search.
If you searched for more than one number then you can choose which one(s) to allocate to the customer.
For each number you want to allocate click on the down arrow in the Allocate To box to find the customer. You can also type a partial name in the box to refine the search. Then choose the site – which will usually be “Main” and click on Allocate.
You will be presented with an EHA screen, this is for 999 capability This is very important. Do not ignore it.
EHA is an abbreviation for Emergency Handling Authority. The address information which you provide here is sent to the EHA. It enables an emergency services operator to identify the address where a 999 call originates. You must enter the address where the number will be used on this EHA information screen. When you have finished then click Send. Click Done on the next screen and that is the end of the procedure.
Important:
After completing the number allocation procedure on the portal you will need to set up each new number as a DDI (direct dial inbound) in the customer’s VoIP server.
