How to set up a shared telephone directory using LDAP
Overview
You can set up a central directory of contact names and telephone numbers for a customer in the VIP VoIP portal. The directory is then propagated to all of the customers’ telephones using the LDAP protocol.
Note:
If the customer has telephones which do not support LDAP then please refer to the separate guide for setting up a shared telephone directory using XML.
Procedure
There are three main steps. The first step is to establish the settings required for each phone. These are unique to each customer. The second step is to configure each of the customer’s telephones with these settings and the final step is to populate the shared directory.
To acquire the phone settings:
- Login to the VIP VoIP Portal
- Click phone books
- Click phone settings – and a list of settings will be presented
To set up each phone:
- Login to the phone’s control panel from a web browser.
- Click directory
- Click LDAP
- Fill in the boxes with the settings you have obtained from the portal. They have to be exactly right.
- Click confirm
- Go to the Setting option on the left
- Under the Directory menu - set all phone book types to be disabled apart from LDAP.
To populate the shared phone directory:
- Return to the VIP VoIP portal
- Exit the phone settings area
- Click add phone book. Name the phone book. Click add.
- Double click the new phone book.
- You can then add individual entries or upload a spreadsheet.
